What this map can and cannot tell you. Level 1 to 5 from the mean assessed severity of signals touching each country over 30 days, adjusted by each country's own geopolitical risk index relative to its five-year range. Countries with no signals in the window show as quiet. Levels as of 2026-08-04. The archive replays 111 days; frames before today are reconstructed from the corpus as we assess it now, not a record of what this page showed on the day. Chokepoint status uses the same five words as the country ramp and the same 1 to 5 scale, measured on a different quantity: the seven-day transit average against that chokepoint's own trailing twelve-month baseline. Within 10% is Quiet, a fall of 10 to 20% is Elevated, 20 to 35% is High, and beyond 35% is Severe. A rise scores one step lower than a fall of the same size, because more ships through a strait is usually rerouting.
